Review of the Google Mobile Service for Series 60.3 smartphones

Google has unveiled a new native search application for Nokia S60 3rd Edition handsets. The application places a Google search box on the standby screen and allows the user to quickly and easily conduct a Google search, with results being returned quickly, using the handset’s internet connection:

To download and install the application, users should direct their handset’s web browser to mobile.google.com (which, coincidentally, is a great resource for quick access to all of Google’s mobile services on any handset) and choose the ‘Search (Download)’ link. The application will be installed:

The edit key can be used to activate it:

Newer handsets such as the N81 8GB and N82, which lack the edit key, can set the application as an Active Standby shortcut, but will lose the home screen applet functionality.

Once activated you can simply type into popup box and search for certain queries and the application will automatically connect to the Internet, perform the search:

And finally display the results for the required query using the s60 default web browser:

By Google this small application allows you to find exactly what you are looking for by searching through Google’s entire index of web and mobile web pages and they’ll adapt the pages for your device’s smaller screen size, or you can choose from options to search classic, which will bring back the exact same results as what it would if you searched for the same keyword using the PC web browser.
