Review of BT Guard from Symbian Guru
I’m writing the review about BT Guard application as it is simple but smart software for the Smartphones Series 60.3 which is meant just for one mobile phone function: automatic turning Bluetooth off when it is idle. BT Guard application is the first app of such kind and I find it very useful.
Here is brief information about the application to be analyzed:
| App name | Vendor | Price | Size, Kb |
|---|---|---|---|
| BT Guard | Symbian Guru | Buy $ 9,99 | 56 |
We analyzed the following list of aspects and application details:
• Installation
• Trial period
• Application interface and Functions
• Help and Support
• Application in action
You can install BT Guard in the course of couple seconds just following the corresponding instructions on the screen of the mobile phone.
The trial version of the software is limited to 10 days, which is nice. The registration code is based on the IMEI of the phone.
Application interface and functions
The main screen of the BT Guard application has the following view:

The application is delivered with following default settings:
• BT Guard is – to activate or deactivate the application
• Change BT after – to define the period of time after which the Bluetooth status will be changed (default is set to 5 min)
• Set BT to – to set the status of Bluetooth to which it will be changed
o On, visible – Bluetooth will be turned on, but will be invisible to others, which helps you to protect your phone from unnecessary interruption
o Off – to turn the Bluetooth off
• Ask – when it is time to change the Bluetooth status the application can ask you for confirmation
o Never
o When active
o Always

Clicking left soft key Options user will see the following buttons:
• Register – to enter registration code
• Help – brief information to navigate in the application
• About – short info about company and contacts
BT Guard Settings are placed in the main application screen, where you can adjust them.
Application works very stable and changes the BT smoothly so that you even do not notice it. This function is very nice as for example I always forget to turn off the BT after a single file transfer, and BT stays just on. With BT Guard the BT will be just switched off.
Switching BT to invisible may be interesting if you are using your BT headset in a crowded place, but are unwilling to show everybody that your BT is on.
Asking for confirmation is meant for the case you are transferring some data at the very moment. So for all who set BT status to Off, I would recommend also to use the setting “Ask when active connection detected” to avoid connection interruption.
Overall opinion about BT Guard: simple idea, but so badly needed application!
BT Guard application has the Help file, which is available in 4 languages; it has an e-mail (support@symbianguru.com) to contact a developer in case of any questions or suggestions.
The Symbian Guru support department is responsible and always delivers e-mail with the answers to our questions in the course of 1-2 hours.
BT Guard application is very simple in use, which makes your work with it pleasant and efficient. It helps you to secure your phone against Bluetooth attacks and unauthorized intrusion by adjusting the proper settings to automatically turn BT off. The application also saves the life of your battery, so we thank the developers for the nice idea!
